We were rolling through the picturesque village of Shelley, feeling pumped for the wedding we were about to perform at. This wedding was being held at the beautiful 'Three Acres Inn' in Emley. A mere stones throw from our SouthWestBand HQ in Wakefield and right next to the famous Emley Moor mast (which we learned that night actually stands taller than the Eiffel Tower!)
As we arrived at the stunning venue, we were greeted with seriously jaw-droping views of the surrounding countryside (we dig a great view at SWB). Scanning around inside the venue we noticed various menus pinned to the walls signed by all sorts of big names who had dined there over the years, including Kevin Keegan, ex-prime minister David Cameron, and even the legendary 'Madness' singer Suggs! 🕶️
After indulging in a downright delicious meal, we took to the stage for our soundcheck. While getting our levels just right a couple who had previously booked us for their late 2022 wedding approached us for a chat. Its always great to catch up with our previous couples and we reminisced over their special night at 'Hooton Pagnell Hall', the very wedding in fact where tonight's couple, Elizabeth and Jonathan, had first discovered SouthWestBand!
Okay, let's talk about the lovebirds for a sec. Elizabeth, originally from Peru, and Jonathan were a stunning couple, and it was clear they were made for each other. Elizabeth had been following SouthWestBand on our socials since their friend's wedding at Hooton Pagnell, where they first discovered us. She had been a loyal fan ever since, and it felt like seeing a close friend get hitched after chatting on IG and TikTok so frequently. We were thrilled to be a part of their big day!
The couple's first dance was to the lesser-known but excellent Ed Sheeran song 'Tenerife Sea', a great choice and really set the tone for the rest of the night. The first set was filled with so much energy that it was hard to believe there were so few guests. Although one of the smallest weddings we have ever performed at, with just over 20 guests, everyone really brought the noise! For part two of the SouthWestBand performance, the bride came out with her brand new footwear, a pair of brilliant white kicks, which she put to work on the dancefloor and crushed it for the entire set! Respect!
As the night progressed, the party kept going strong, with guests from all over the globe. At least four different nationalities were represented among the 20 or so guests, so we kept the music international. Elizabeth also had a list of Latin music for inspiration, being from Peru, and we were more than happy to oblige. For the last song of the night, we hit them with 'Bohemian Rhapsody', a huge singalong and a great way to end the evening.
Performing at Elizabeth and Jonathan's wedding was an absolute delight. An unreal location, killer atmosphere and an amazing group of guests to perform for. We felt privileged to be a part of such a special day and look forward to rocking it at many more weddings over the 2023 season. Cheers, everyone!
